Ballasture by Carl Broesen

A recent graduate from Product Design at UTS, Carl has a passion for making and currently works as an architectural modelmaker, a 3D CAD product visualizer, and a freelance furniture maker. He is a design advocate and believes good design can make the world a better place. Carl likes to use his hands-on skills & manufacturing knowledge to create beautifully functional objects and products that make people’s lives easier.

A series of furniture products formed around the idea of ballast and modularity. The key feature is a solid molded base made from recycled HDPE that allows users to interlock a range of functional elements to create a hat stand, a side table & a garment rack. Thoughtfully selected materials with their ability to come apart mean that it’s been designed for disassembly with the future of a circular economy in mind – each part can be repaired, replaced, or passed on at its end of life.
