Liam Starcevich studied architecture at the University of Western Australia and, wanting to practice in a medium in which design and making were not divorced from one another, pursued training in furniture at the Sturt School for Wood. He now practices in Hobart as a member of Designed Objects Tasmania.
This piece served as an exercise in surfacing and was an attempt to produce a contemporary interpretation of the classic bombé chest. Made from Tasmanian Blackwood curves abound, affording the piece a planted yet softened stance. Its construction incorporated CNC machining, hand-cut joinery and a plethora of shaping techniques.
