Drawn to exploring the infinite possibilities of porcelain translucency, fine artist and designer Sarah Tracton handcrafts lighting that is luminous, experimental and ethereal. A Good Design Award Winner in 2021, she has refined a niche porcelain slip poured by layer on plaster technique infused with iridescent colour fused with innovative technologies.
Powered through a minimalistic frame structure of near-invisible slimline wires, Triptych Collection appears to float weightlessly in space by eliminating visible cables. Incorporating Kintsugi golden repair into porcelain that has shattered during firing stages, this collection addresses the wider implications of waste, replacing the cycle of make-use-dispose with circular economy. A process that transforms what was once a piece of broken trash into a functional light, where the repaired scars become illuminated as rivulets of gold.
Each lit surface reveals unique one-of-a-kind idiosyncrasies, embracing the intriguing variations inherent in the handcrafting process.
