Upside down – Lotus Table 2022 by David Liu

David is a Canberra-based artist, designer and furniture maker. He uses geometric shapes and perspective views in his furniture practice and highlights his work with optical illusion. Audiences are invited to look at and interpret his works from different angles. David understands and expresses the beauty of a complex world with simplified forms.

The shape of this table is inspired by the lotus leaves. The perfect circle is actually not the most beautiful shape while a missing part will attract the curiosity from the audience. I extracted this shape and used two opposite colours to bring about the strong contract. The similar but contrast colours can also construct a subtle balance between the top and the bottom.
