Welcome by Zoë Fitzgerald

Zoë is a textile artist living and working on Larrakia land in Australia’s Top End. Through Mango Lala, she creates bright and colourful rugs, wall hangings and textiles inspired by the tropics. Each piece is slowly crafted with care using a rug tufting technique.

Welcome mats are usually considered in utilitarian, rather than artistic, terms. Through this series she turns that narrative on its head, reimagining welcome mats in a whole new way – as objects of art in their own right and as opportunities to share colour and joy with each passing visitor.
