Alex Small
Alex is a Director of COX, working in the Sydney studio since 2001. Starting her career in London working for Hopkins Architects for 9 years, she has worked across major industry sectors, including cultural, health, educational, transport, residential and commercial. She is well-versed in major civic buildings including Portcullis House, Westminster, restoration and integration of Grade1 listed buildings, having worked on the upgrade of Manchester City Art Gallery, residential and hotels, education and major infrastructure works.
Alex’s years of experience give her an edge when working in large inter-disciplinary teams, using her understanding of possible challenges to ensure optimum design outcomes. She participates from inception through to completion, bringing a wide body of knowledge to each project she is involved in. She has worked on many transport infrastructure projects including the Jubilee Line extension, West Metro and North-West metro reference designs, masterplans and feasibility studies for Wynyard and Redfern Stations and the significant upgrade of Wynyard Station in 2018.
Alex brings her holistic design approach to a wide variety of built works including Australian Film Television and Radio School, Shore School Physical Education Centre, St Pauls College student halls of residence and the Darling Hotel, Pyrmont.
Her passion for design and sustainability is brought to the fore in all projects; this is evident in her interest in transport infrastructure and buildings that have a performance and built response to the challenges of ESD.
