Meet the Brand: Austex

National Media

For over 30 years, Austex has been at the forefront of Australian textile innovation, designing and printing high-performance upholstery fabrics and vinyl in Melbourne. As a proudly family-run business, Austex combines quality craftsmanship with cutting-edge design, catering to commercial, hospitality, healthcare, and aged care sectors. Ahead of Design Show Australia 2025, we caught up with the team to discuss the latest trends, upcoming product launches, and what visitors can expect from their showcase in the Textile Village.

Can you give us a brief introduction to your brand?

Austex is a proudly Australian, family-run business specialising in high-performance upholstery fabrics & vinyl. With over 30 years in the industry, we design and print our own fabric ranges right here in Melbourne, ensuring innovation and quality in every piece.

Our vinyl collections are designed to meet our high standards and are manufactured to ensure exceptional durability and performance. Our mission is to provide beautifully designed, durable textiles for commercial, hospitality, healthcare, and aged care settings while staying true to our commitment to quality and local expertise.

What differentiates your brand from other competitors in the market?

We don’t just distribute fabrics—we create them. Every Fusion printed fabric is designed and manufactured in-house, ensuring premium quality and unique designs tailored to commercial needs. Our vinyl collections, like Pellan, Studio, Marlo and Tessuto are known for their durability, easy maintenance, and stunning finishes. With complete control over production, we can offer bespoke solutions, quick turnarounds, and quality assurance that sets us apart.

What can our visitors expect to see and experience on your stand at Design Show Australia?

Visitors will get an exclusive look at our newest vinyl ranges, along with an exciting showcase of our Fusion printed fabrics. Expect bold designs, high-performance materials, and hands-on experiences with our textiles. We’ll also be sharing insights into our manufacturing process, showing how we bring our designs to life from concept to final product.

Are there any exciting trends that you are seeing in the world of design this year?

Pattern and texture are making a strong comeback! We’re seeing an increasing demand for bold, geometric prints, layered textures, and earthy, nature-inspired tones. Sustainability is also a key focus, with designers looking for durable, long-lasting materials that perform in high-use environments.

Could you highlight any recent collaborations or projects that have been particularly impactful for your brand?

We’ve worked with a range of designers and commercial spaces, bringing unique upholstery solutions to everything from boutique hotels to major healthcare facilities. One standout project has been the use of our Fusion range in aged care and hospitality spaces, where both aesthetics and performance are equally critical.

Are there any product launches we can expect to see at Design Show Australia next year?

Yes! We’ll be launching several new vinyl collections with fresh colours and textures, plus new additions to our Fusion printed fabric range. We’re constantly innovating, and this will be an exciting opportunity to showcase what’s next for Austex.

What are you looking forward to the most exhibiting in the Textile Village at Design Show Australia?

We’re excited to connect with designers, specifiers, and industry professionals who share our passion for quality textiles. It’s always inspiring to see how our fabrics are used in different projects, and we love sharing the story behind our designs. Plus, the opportunity to introduce our Fusion range to a wider audience is something we can’t wait for!
